Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What are the dates of the workshops?
A. The 2016 Workshops are will be August 1-5, 2016 for Week 1 and August 8-12, 2016 for Week 2. Each workshop is one week long, and each week there will be two workshops running concurrently. See the Workshops page for schedule and more detailed information.

Q. How much do the workshops cost?
A. Each workshop is $395 for students and $595 for professionals. See the Registration & Fees page for more information.

Q. Where are the workshops held?
A. The workshops will be held in CCA’s main San Francisco campus at 1111 8th Street, San Francisco.

Q. Do the workshops run all day?
A. Each workshop will run Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. There will be a midday break for lunch, as well as several guest lectures scheduled throughout the week. Each workshop will culminate with a Friday afternoon final review in which the week’s work will be exhibited and discussed.

Q. I don’t have a background in architecture. Can I still attend the workshops?
A. Yes. The Introduction to Digital Modeling and Architectural Model Making  workshops are most appropriate for those new to architecture and studio culture.

Q. Can I register for more than one workshop?
A. Yes, but you only register for one workshop each week. For example, for Week 1, you can register for either Introduction to Digital Modeling or Introduction to Design Computation — not both. See the Workshops page for schedule and more detailed information.

Q. What computer resources are provided?
A. Workshop participants will have access to CCA’s computer labs from 9am-5pm. CCA computers will be installed with the necessary software. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops if the necessary software is preinstalled. See the Workshops page for relevant software information.

Q. Do I need to bring my own materials?
A. For the Architectural Model-Making and Introduction to Digital Fabrication workshops, CCA will provide basic model-making tools and materials to get students started. Students may purchase additional materials throughout the week at their discretion.

Q. Is there academic credit for completing these workshops?
A. No, there is no academic credit associated with the Formations workshops. However, upon request, a certificate of completion can be provided upon successful completion of the workshop.
